Read in Gita Reader

Krishna now distinguishes between divine and demoniac natures. The divine nature leads to liberation: fearlessness, purity, generosity, self-control, truthfulness, non-violence, patience, compassion. The demoniac nature leads to bondage: hypocrisy, arrogance, anger, cruelty. Arjuna is told he is born to the divine nature.

Why This Matters

Krishna’s enumeration of divine qualities — a moral inventory that has served as an ethical ideal across centuries.
